Some of the wildlife we are seeing this week
I’ve had a chance to be on the water quite a bit this weekend.
On Friday my trip took me to Back Bay, where we saw the usual population of gulls, terns and cormorants.
The jellyfish are out this time of year – we see them by the dozen in all sizes. But on Friday I saw the biggest jellyfish I have ever seen.
This jelly was at least the size of a basketball!
I took the picture at the very end of Back Back near the brackish lake, which you can paddle into at high tide.
It was sunny and 30 degrees!A beautiful day to be on the water!
On the evening special on Saturday, again we saw the usual population of gulls, terns and cormorants, the double crested type.
This cormorant wasn’t too bothered by our passage, and just stood their drying his wings.
We also saw schools of small fish, and all sorts of underwater vegetation.
It was a bit windy tonight (Saturday) but the sun was out and the temperature was very nice for the time of year.
The disadvantage of the nice sunny paddles is that the Great Blue Herons don’t make many appearances.
We did not even see one! Those was best spotted on overcast evenings, near sunset.
Up in Norris’ Gut we were joined by mama duck and ducklings, they swam alongside us for a few minutes, having a snack among the seaweed.
This family has been seen by several Guides in the area and often make their appearance near Norris’ Gut, on the way to “The Window”
