Guide in Training Night Navigation, now with bioluminescence!

The 2009 – 2010 Guides in Training headed out for their Night Navigation assessment. Given four LAT/LON coordinates they were tasked with plotting a dead reckoning course to each one of the coordinates. Their path took them out to Roger Power Island, then over to Shannon Island all the way into Cub Basin and then back through the narrows to the boathouse. Along the way they ran into a concentration of Bioluminescent organisms. As Guide in training Liz explained it, “It was like your paddle was a magic wand!”

Keep an eye out for the full moon paddles later this summer, it’s an excellent opportunity to see this amazing aspect of nature up close and personal. You too can have a magic wand.

  1. Great post Karl!

You missed some great glow in the dark sand on the May 15th camping trip! Too bad you couldn’t get off work!

It was amazing, when you kicked the sand it glowed in the dark 🙂 Bioluminescent organisms are a VERY cool thing to see.
